Part-Time Tax/Accounting Assistant Needed to Organize Complex Personal & Business Tax Materials

Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

I already have a CPA who files my tax returns. I am looking for an experienced U.S.-based CPA, accountant, or senior bookkeeper with significant tax experience to help me organize and prepare the underlying information and documentation for my CPA.

My goal is to find someone who can take ownership of the organizational side of the process—not simply wait for me to provide perfectly organized information. I need someone who can review what I have, understand what my CPA will need, identify missing information, ask me the right questions, and synthesize the sometimes raw material into a clean, organized package for my CPA.

My tax situation includes:

* W-2 and 1099 income

* Cryptocurrency transactions/investments

* Other investments

* Short-term rental property

* Long-term rental properties

* Real estate purchases, improvements, repairs, furnishings and other expenses

* Bonus Depreciation, regular depreciation, and capital-asset records

* Various personal and business expenses/accounts

The work includes reviewing prior tax returns and CPA requests, organizing tax documents, reviewing and categorizing transactions, reconciling bank and credit-card records, preparing Excel schedules, organizing receipts/invoices and supporting documentation, identifying missing items, and helping me respond to questions from my CPA.

Communication style is important. I am specifically looking for someone who is comfortable with an ongoing, practical working relationship where we can go back and forth by email, phone, and text as needed. I do not want communication limited to a client portal, scheduled appointments, or formal meetings. There will likely be many small questions where a quick email, text, or phone call is the most efficient way to resolve something.

I am not looking for someone to replace my CPA or file my return right now (though that might happen fir future years). The objective is to get the information going to my CPA complete, accurate, organized, and presented in a form that makes tax preparation straightforward.

For the right person, this could become an ongoing relationship beyond the initial project. I would prefer to work with the same person throughout the year as accounting/tax organization issues arise rather than rebuilding everything at tax time.

Ideal candidate: U.S.-based, substantial individual and small-business tax experience, strong Excel/accounting skills, experience with rental real estate and investment activity (and in particular the so-called short term rental loophole and bonus depreciation offsetting W2; implications of repair vs maintenance or renovation, etc), familiarity with cryptocurrency taxation, and comfortable working independently and communicating directly with me and, when appropriate, my CPA.

I prefer an hourly engagement and am looking for someone who is responsive, organized, practical, and capable of taking ownership of the process.

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
