Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

The AirCover Insurance Platform team builds the systems behind AirCover, which includes Host liability insurance, Experiences liability insurance and Host damage protection. We are expanding insurance products across global markets and building the experimentation capabilities that help us understand and increase the share of Hosts and guests who are covered. You will join a fast-growing team with greenfield opportunities and a multi-year platform roadmap.

The Difference You Will Make:

  • Contribute to backend services and APIs for policy, coverage, enrollment and regional rules that scale to new markets.

  • Translate product and regulatory requirements into clean, well-tested code and configurable platform behavior.

  • Implement experimentation hooks, logging and metrics so Product and Data Science can test offers and measure attach rate with confidence.

  • Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal and other engineering teams to deliver high-impact work.

  • Use data to find gaps in conversion and reliability, and drive fixes and improvements.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions and operational improvements across the team.

A Typical Day:

  • Design, build and operate distributed backend services in a service-oriented architecture, with reliable monitoring, logging and alerting.

  • Write and review code and technical designs, and apply sound engineering judgment within your scope.

  • Build data pipelines and events that support analytics and experiments.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security and privacy teams to meet high standards for data protection across regions.

  • Take part in on-call rotations and help improve system reliability.

Your Expertise:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on backend services.

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Python or Go.

  • Experience building and operating services and APIs, with working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems and service-oriented architecture in a production environment.

  • Familiarity with A/B testing or experimentation systems, and comfort using data to inform product decisions.

  • Experience in insurance, payments, fintech or other regulated domains.

  • Experience with multi-region or configurable, rules-driven platforms.

  • Ability to work through ambiguity and collaborate deeply with cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communication skills, able to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
